The Paradox of One

As in music, visual patterns can evoke profound inner emotions. . On one hand, the artist, in an act of self expression "talks to him/her self", where  a single  individual creates a work in a single period of time ---. On the other hand, the very same work becomes universal over long periods of time, affecting many individuals .

Whether I am sketching a portrait on my iPad or capturing the light of an Italian street scene, my intention is to reach a single viewer, a single reader, a single soul.

Yet, in this focused attempt to speak to one person, a strange thing happens. The work often finds an audience that is both vast and long-lasting. By aiming for the heart of the individual, the art somehow discovers a universal language.
